Kim Delaney is an American actress who is best known as the character Detective Diane Russell in ABCs series NYPD Blue for which she won an Emmy Award. Delaney was born as the sole child from her mom who was a homemaker as well as a senior executive from the United Auto Workers. Delaney lived most of her life with 4 brothers. In her early years she longed to be a court reporter. However, after graduating from high school, and moving into New York in the 1980s and began to model, she was hooked. The role she was given was that of an innocent child in the 1981 soap opera All My Children. Since then Delaney has been featured in many TV dramas and films. Her personal life unlike her professional one has nt been a success and has not been happy. The accomplished actor has struggled with alcoholism and she has experienced two failed marriages. In 2005, she was denied the custody of her son.
